About the club
Sheen Lawn Tennis and Squash Club offers sporting and social facilities in a family-friendly atmosphere. The club boasts excellent facilities with eight all weather courts, two squash courts a bar and clubrooms. We regularly host the Surrey Juniors Championship. While the for-hire clubrooms are used for a variety of activities including slimnastics, junior ballet and bridge
Situated just off Fife Road and bordering Richmond Park, the club serves the East Sheen, Mortlake, Barnes, Putney and Richmond areas. Parking is easy. There are currently around 250 tennis and 109 squash members. New members are welcome.
On the tennis side we aim to cater for players of all standards. For the competitively minded the club runs four men's and four women's throughout the year. And with an active mid-week section the ladies teams are particularly strong.
Besides inter-club matches the club also runs a winter veteran's tournament and a summer club championship that's timed to end with a start of Wimbledon party.
Everybody dance!
The high spots of social tennis are the Sunday morning mix-ins. A club member is on hand to match up players and ensure that no one is left out. In the summer months the midweek American tournament and barbecue is always popular.
For those looking to improve their game, head coach, Martyn Lappas, ably assisted by Caroline Jordan are on hand. Whether you are a novice or senior players they can tailor a programme to suit. Coaching is open to members and non-members. Group sessions can also be arranged. The ladies Saturday morning session generally attracts a good turnout.
Under their guidance the club runs a strong junior section starting with mini-tennis a quick and effective way for juniors to build their skills. Martyn and Caroline also arrange coaching sessions with local schools.
For other members squash is the attraction. Members meet through an active league system or Saturday morning group workouts.
Both sides of the club come together in the bar and for social events throughout the year. Some are part of the regular calendar such as the Christmas cocktail party or occasional Quiz Nights. Others such as a tennis break in Salzburg or a trip to the Paris open are more informally organised
There is good wheelchair access to ensure the club can be enjoyed by all.
Sheen Tennis Club is affiliated to the Surrey LTA
